Adopting a new mindset that will not only make wedding planning decisions EASIER, but will help you crush limiting beliefs left and right.
One of the best new mindsets I’m trying to adopt is “yes, and.” Decisions in life don’t have to be an “either, or.” And in true Mean Girls fashion, the limit does not exist.
No, seriously.
When deciding whether or not to elope, it doesn’t have to be this, hell or high water, yes or no, “I’m only inviting 5 people but then the rest of my world will be disappointed,” kind of decision.
It can be yes, I’m eloping. AND yes, I’m having a big wedding where my parents and grandparents and great-grandparents can celebrate the fact that I’ve found my person.
It’s taken me awhile to come to this realization but the boundaries we set in life are the ones we put there. Knowingly or unknowingly, we’ve created these compartments for our mentality. And when things don’t perfectly fit into those boxes, we don’t know what to do.
I come from a big, crazy, loud Italian family. I love them all to bits! We’re obnoxious, we cook way too much food when we’re together and we have traditions for the sake of having traditions. And maybe if you’re reading this, you have a big, wild family, too. And they’d be devastated if you eloped without them. So I get it. They played a huge role in who you are and ultimately, led you to find the person you want to spend the rest of your life with.
BUT you are also in love with the idea of reading vows to your husband on the top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere to promise your forever.
Let me introduce to you…
“YES, AND”
YES, you can go shopping with your mom and your bridesmaids to find the. PERFECT. dress. AND you can scout out the best location for you and your husband to elope on your honeymoon.
YES, you can pick out a venue where you can envision yourself having a father/daughter dance. AND you can create a set of vows to read to your husband when you elope.
YES, you can select floral arrangements that will make your heart skip a beat when you first hold your bridal bouquet. AND you can hike up a mountain at sunrise and say your I Do’s to your forever, again.
The thing is, love isn’t captured in one day. It’s captured in the every day. Your wedding day is beautiful and glorious and wonderful BECAUSE it’s the start of your marriage with your favorite person. And if love isn’t captured all on one day, then why does your wedding have to?
