Growth. Gratitude. Grace.
These are my words for 2019. I’ve never selected or solidified words that I’d like to save as a mantra for the whole year ahead until now. Truthfully, I’ve gone with the flow, ceasing opportunities as they come, and kept trudging along in a somewhat forward direction.
I first saw the idea of choosing words for the year on Nina Passero’s Instagram story. Not only is she an amazing friend of my family’s but she has become a life coach and consultant for so many. And that’s when I decided my three words.
Growth. Gratitude. Grace.
As I dive into my first year of curating and expanding FDP, these three words embody what I want to create and express through my business.
So much of my life right now is uncharted territory for me. Yes, I’ve had the pleasure of learning photography since high school, studied it in college and would truthfully, continue learning about it even if I didn’t earn a dime. BUT, running my own business, working with an attorney, paying quarterly taxes – that’s all new to me. I’m growing.
I hope to always experience growth. To grow is to allow ourselves to open our eyes, to have an open mind, and to continue experiencing life with emerging freshness and vitality.
There are so many ways in which we can complain because things aren’t going our way, or feel as though we should be farther along than we are, or wish we had more skills, materials, people, etc on our side. But rather than complain, or wish, or hope that things are different, I believe we should be thankful for all that we do have. I am grateful that I live in a world where people are encouraged to chase their dreams. I am thankful that I live in a home where happiness has always preceded wealth or status. I am honored to be in a position to serve all of you, to photograph and capture your love in all of its forms, and to be a cheerleader for your relationships, goals and dreams.
The thing about gratitude is that the more you give, the more you receive. I believe that to live with gratitude is to live with abundance.
I am constantly berating myself, beating myself up and putting unnecessary pressure on myself. It’s that perfectionist side of me that just wants to keep excelling, to be better than I currently am. At times, it’s an incredibly motivational trait to have, but at others, it can be a bit tough to manage. Therefore, grace.
For me, living with grace is knowing that everything will happen in time, as it’s meant to. It’s trusting in something bigger than myself to guide me. It’s believing that even though I have the tendency to put pressure on myself, it’s okay to enjoy the journey and trust that I’ll keep moving forward.
Growth. Gratitude. Grace.
