Nicole and Alex came to me with beautiful dreams for their engagement session. These two are having a destination wedding near Lake George next November, but for their engagement session, they wanted something different. During our initial consult call, Nicole shared with me how much she loves the West Coast and beaches of California. And soon, stars aligned and we began scheduling their engagement session for Malibu. 

For their engagement session, they wanted to showcase California’s coastal beauty, which is so unlike the coast of their home beaches in New York. California boasts jaggedly poetic cliffs, vast views and rocky shores that create an even more creative and intricate facade for their photos. After some research, we found Point Dume in Malibu and immediately fell in love.

Their session began just as the sun was beginning to set on top of the cliffs of Point Dume. The styling of their session was the perfect combination of high-end chic and playfulness. The billowy and romantic sleeves of her For Love & Lemons Dress mimicked the movement of the ocean waves down below. The bow details on the sleeves were the perfect touch and Nicole finished off the look by coordinating with the detailing on her Mach & Mach inspired shoes. Playing off of her sophisticated, yet effortlessly chic attire, Alex wore a striped suit jacket with black cuffed pants to complete the beachy look. 

When photographing this portion of their session, I loved drawing inspiration from their style when paired with the vastness of views to pose them. Many of the images from this section of their session feel valiant with a touch of spontaneity. Much like marriage, we must enter into it with playfulness, fearlessness and the ability to fully commit to working on building a life together with the other person. This location paired so beautifully with this message and I found myself truly inspired.

Next,  we headed to the sandy beaches below to capture the remainder of their session. Transitioning from formal attire, to one with a relaxed and airy feel, we ran through the waves, along the shoreline and embraced the excitement of adventure. Traveling from New York to California for their engagement session made this moment feel even more special. I love when engagement sessions feel like an experience on your way to saying I Do. Every step of the way leading up to the wedding, and beyond, are important moments in your love story. Capturing Nicole and Alex on the beaches of Malibu was not only a true testament to the love that they share for traveling, but also for the love that they share for each other. 

It was a joy to capture this beautiful engagement session on the beaches of Malibu and I can’t wait for their destination wedding on Lake George next year!
