Oh sweet friends, photographing proposals is one of my favorite parts of this job of mine!! Between the nervously excited groom-to-be, planning the perfect surprise, and the pure joy of it all! It’s simply the best!
The Proposal Plan
Photographing proposals is incredibly special for soooo many reasons! For one, I typically am contacted by a future bride-to-be, whether it’s for an engagement session or inquiring about my wedding services! But when a sweet boyfriend is getting ready to propose to his girl, I always get the kindest messages! They are filled with so much giddy excitement, making sure they plan out the details justttt right!
Which was no different for Joe and his future bride, Jasmine! Joe and Jasmine live down in Georgia together but met while in Middle School in New York. MIDDLE SCHOOL, friends!! Lil babes in love! Joe knew he wanted to propose to her on their recent trip back home and reached out to schedule the details.
Joe decided to propose to Jasmine in the place where he first asked her to be his girlfriend at Waryas Park in Poughkeepsie, New York. And man, it couldn’t have been any more perfect if we tried! This covert operation was expertly planned because he brought along two of their already engaged friends, Alyssa and Jordan! Using this photoshoot as a decoy for their wedding, we pretended as if I was photographing a session for all four of them! I quickly redirected some shots to focus on just Joe and Jasmine, and before you know it…she said YES!
What it’s All About
You guys, maybe it’s because I’m so grateful to be working again but I seriously LOVE my job. So this is where I brag about it just a bit because working with Joe and Jasmine fueled this lil heart of mine.
Chatting with Joe, arranging the details of his proposal and hearing all about his and Jasmine’s love story reminded me that THIS is what it’s all about. So much has happened this year, for all of us. Between COVID-19, struggling with our careers, unemployment and finances, experiencing a pivotal shift in the way we learn about race (cause uh, yes, hello racism is BAD) on top of our normal anxieties, and day-to-day hardships; 2020 has been HARD.
But this…finding someone you love so completely, creating a life together, promising to this one person that you will walk together through whatever life throws at you…this is what life’s about. And when I got to photograph Joe and Jasmine’s proposal, I was reminded of this. That no matter what, in all things, with all things – lead with love.
But anyways, back to why you’re here!!
